Transcription of Dr Peter Sutton’s Notebooks
In 2024 Dr Peter Sutton gave the Flinders Family access to his entire remarkable archive of field notebooks. In these notebooks Dr Sutton has recorded hours and hours of detailed information about the language, land, history and culture of the Flinders Island people, as told by his dear friend and collaborator, Johnny Flinders. These notebooks contain more than 500 pages of handwritten notes, which Pama Language Centre linguists are now working to transcribe and analyse. This is a big job and its taking us a while.

Two examples of pages from Dr Peter Sutton’s notebooks. The typed notes on top of the hand writing are transcriptions made by Pama Language Centre linguists.
